AS2 -Task Four
In
this task I will be talking about the issues that I any run in to. The issue I
will be talking about is the legal and ethical issues, meaning copyright music
and copyright idea. Also I will be talking about the codes of practices,
meaning not false advertising and product place. Also I will look at the ASA
guidelines.
When
making my advert I have to research about the ASA and BCAP guidelines. I have
to research this, as if I do not and if make a mistake that comes up as braking
the guild line, than they would not let me advertise the advert. Some of the
issues will be facing if do not read it is legal and ethical issues like,
copyright music, ideas, design etc. And some code of practices like, false
advertising, product placement, bad language and sexy content to wrong
audience.
When
I have completed my research on the guidelines of ASA and BCAP, I will know
that the last idea will not have any legal issues with the ASA and BCAP, as I
have done my research. All the ideas for my advert is original, when planning
on the final production I looked as different headphones adverts to inspire me
gather a range of ideas to help me create my final idea.
When
I got my ideas from looking at different headphones advert, I came up with my
final idea that is original. My idea has not been copied by other ideas and the
music that is going to be played will not be copied, it will be original and
made up for my specific advert. Also, when I am making my advert, I will make
sure that it contains appropriate content for the viewers. This will ensure
that no one is offended or harmed by the actions of the advert. (04 – Image
below).
Also
in my advert I will not use any big brand product without their permission.
Using product placement is another form of copying. It is using big brands to
the attention the audience. Any product that will be used in the advert will be
my own, as I will not be copying. This ensures that I will not be sued of using
product placement without permission. Another big legal issue that happens with
advertisement is false advertising. In my advert every detail and figures are
backed up with research that I have conducted, so my advert will not contain
false information. This ensures that my advert will be able to be viewed by the
audience without lies. (03 – Image below).
Another
feature in my advert is a free gift with the headphones. This will not cause a problem
with the ASA, as the guidelines says that the gift has to look like, how it looks
in real life and the audience should get them, which they will. (08 – image below)
Overall
my advert, that I have came up with, ensures to the audience that the product
will be advertised as it is show in the really life. Without adding any extra
features like, changing the lightning of the product, colour, and buttons etc.
Also the information given to the audience will be reliable not false as I did
my research and backed by it with evidence. At the end, my advert will have no
problems with the ASA and BCAP because I have followed the guidelines of code,
so advert is free to be viewed to the audience.

AS2 - Task Three - Requirements for a production:
In
this task I will be creating a plan productions about my headphones advert
explaining why I need to find out about Technical equipment, Filming location,
Actors, Costumes, Props, Time scale and budget. I will be talking about what
equipment is needed, where do I want to shoot the advertisement, what sort of
actors do I need for my advertisement, what costumes and props will I need and
how long will the project take from planning, sourcing materials, filming and
editing. After I will find out the information about the things need, meaning
where to get them, and how much will it cost me. Also I will be showing the
client the production that I will be carrying out in the most cost effective.
Technical
Equipment
The
first equipment that is needed to take into thought when making the advert
would be equipment. The equipment consist of cameras for filming, boom mic for
recording the voice of the actors and actresses, lighting lamps for the light
to be good for the advert and tripods for the support of the camera. I plan to
rent the camera from a website called “Hire a camera” (http://www.hireacamera.com/camcorders/xdcamex.asp).
This websites has arrange of cameras to choose from. I have specifically chosen
the “Sony PMW-200” because of its clear view screen and its specs are amazing.
As I am hiring this for two days it will cost me £204 including VAT, without
it, it cost £170. As I am hiring it for two days, the problem with that is I
will have to collect it on that and give it back, which is Monday and Friday.
There is another way of me hiring the camera, which is to hire it for a week.
But the problem with that is, it is too expensive as I wish to save money (£382
including VAT) and I will be wasting money on the days which I am not filming,
so the first option is better as I will be saving money. I hiring the boom mic
from the same website as the camera. The Mic I have chosen is the “Sony XLR-K1M
XLR” because it will be able to fit in to my camera. The price of the boom mic
is £46 for two days including VAT. Like the camera I have to collect the boom
mic and give it back on the same day. It would be easier if I hired it for a
week, which cost £86, but I would be wasting the money because on the days I am
not using it. The next equipment that is needed, is the lighting. As for the
camera and boom mic, I will be hiring the lighting from the same website. The lighting,
which I am hiring is called “Dedo 150W 3 Head Kit”. I am hiring this one
because of its specs are excellent. I am hiring it for two days, so the price
of it is £116 including the VAT, which is better than hiring it for a week,
which is £218. The last equipment is the tripod. As like the other equipment, I
will hire a tripod from “Hire a camera” website. The tripod I have selected is
called “Dolly & Track”, I am hiring this tripod because the dolly has two
sets of locating the holes for the tripod legs, which means the tripod can be
used in both high and low positions. It has eight radial ball bearing wheels
which set the track width to the correct positions as the dolly moves down the
track. The price of the tripod for two days is £74 including VAT which is
better than the weekly price, which is £137 including VAT. There many problems
that could happen when or using the equipment. First, when I come to collect it
equipment if any of them get damage, I would have to pay for it, which will cost
a lot! Second, if I do not return the equipment on time, I will b have to pay
more money than I am expected to. Thirdly, when I am setting up the equipment I
have to be carefully that I do not forget the equipment, because it can be
stolen, than I would have to pay for it. Overall I will have to pay £440 including
VAT but not including the deposit. With the deposit it will cost £309, but I will get back £2651 when I return the equipment.
Film
Locations
The second requirement that is needed and I must
to take into consideration is the potential filming locations. Originally I
thought about filming in public library in Barking and Dagenham in Romford. But
in order to film in that location, I would have to type an email to Cllr Kashif
Haroon, who is the deputy lead member of the community library for Barking and
Dagenham council (dagenhamlibraryroombookings@lbbd.gov.uk). Asking
him, to allow me to film in their Romford library. As he has a big responsibility
to the council, the reposes time will take long and at the end of it, I might
not get the permission, which means I would have be wasting valuable time. So
after I decided that I will film in the school library as it will be easier to
ask, as I don’t need to write or type any detailed email asking permission to
use the library. I can just go and ask the librarian to close off certain parts
of the library that I need to use for a timer period of 1 hour and 30 minutes
for two days on Mondays and Fridays and I don’t need to pay for the renting of
the library. I will do half the filming on Monday and continue it and finish it
on Friday. This gap gives me efficient time to change any errors that I have
made to the script or the storyboard. They are many ways of transportation to
getting to the Robert Clack School. Normally I walk to the school, which takes
me around 40 minutes, sometimes I take the bus which takes around 20 minutes as
there are two buses stop need to go to Robert Clack. The bus that I would use
for the first stop from my road, which is Whalebone Lane, is 62, 362 & 86.
These buses go to Farrance Road, than I get off and walk to Chadwell Heath High
Road, which takes around 5 minutes. After I take the 172 or the 673 bus to
James Avenue, where I get off and walk the rest, which take me around 5 minute.
Overall it takes me around 33 minutes to get to Robert Clack with the bus and I
don’t need to pay for the buses as I am under 18 so, I’m free. But they’re also
many problems that I face with the location and transportation. For example some
of the buses don’t arrive on time like the 172 and 62. This is because of the
weather conditions, if it is raining and windy the buses will take longer as it
is harder to drive in the rain. If in condition like snow it will take even
longer. But because it is getting to summer, the weather will start to get
better and the buses should not be late. Another problem is that, if I am late,
I would have less time to film, which means that I would have to organise another
day to uses the library. This is a problem because the library may be used for other
things like revision or it may be booked for something else. This would take a
lot of time out of making of the advert and cost me the editing time. Another
problem is that the weather can get bad and rune the lighting for the camera.
Before I decided to film in the library I was looking at different areas and
websites to find a place to uses. I looked at the website calledhttp://filmlondon.org.uk/.
This website showed me the best places to film in London but the prices are not
reasonable and getting there would cost money as I would have to uses the
tube.
Actors
and Actresses
The third requirement that is needed for my advert is the actors and actresses of
the advert. For my advert I will be looking for mixture of people meaning,
different age, gender and race. I am going to be looking for 5 actors and
actresses aged “between 15 – 25”. This is because it meets my target audience and
from my market research most people who filled it out were aged between my
target audiences. Also another reason why I will be having same age rang is
because it will engage my target audience as the actors and actresses will be
the same age. I not really interested in specific genders but I would like to
have an equal amount of genders so the adverts can a peal to both sex. But I
need to take my result into consideration, which I received from the market
research they I carried out on Survey Monkey. The research showed me that 80% females
use headphones. I will use this information by making my advert stand out more
to the male market for my advert it even more effective. I will do this by
making the men look good, strong, confident, authoritative and adventurous.
This is because men live in the “now”. They are concrete thinkers that like to
consummate and complete what they set out to do. Men are interested in power
and in looking good, even more than being good. When I am looking for actors
and actresses for my advertisement I am going to put out posters and flyers
around the school to find volunteers and I will contact friends to take part as
well. Reason for volunteers is because I would be saving money and second is
that the actors and actresses would be getting lots of experiences in front of
the camera, which will benefit them because most advertisement agency are
looking for people with experience behind them. After I will organise an audition
where the volunteers will be given a line from the script, which they will have
to lean. After I will have book a place for the audition to take place. I have
looked at different places and chosen one. The location is near king George
playing filed, I have chosen this place because on the website, which is http://www.playfootball.net/romford/functions/#widget
they say that they give “Free Function Room Hire”. So I wouldn't have to pay
for the room for the auditions. Later when I got the room, I will assemble
audition and judge the candidates by their acting and their passion for the
character. Than I would have to choose the right person for the role and if wanted
to hire a well-known actor, it would cost me a lot of money to persuade them to
accept the role. Also by hiring a recognised actors it will give the advert a
better edge of the public viewing the ad. When having the cast there could be problems
like, hiring unidentified actors may not have any effect on the audience,
unlike hiring a well know actor like George Sargent. Another problems would be
if I a late, the actors and actresses would have to come back others day to film.
This is a problem because I would have to pay them again, which will cost a lot
for the hired actors and I would have to pay for the use of the equipment.
Another problem is that if an actor gets lie I would have to reschedule the
plan which will cost me a lot. As I am filming in the library I don’t not need
any permission from the public.
Costumes
and Props
The
fourth requirement I need to create the advert is the costumes and props. To
make my advert perfect, I will need to make sure that I have all the props I need
to for the actors and actresses and the right costumers for the actors and actresses
to wear to make my advert. The main props that I will need for the actors is the
headphones, as it is the product I am advertising. As this a headphone advert, I
will not have to pay for the headphone, as the suppler will give me one to use.
The next prop is the book as I am going to create a teaching scene. As I am
filming in the library, I will have access to their supplies, so I can use the
books that I need. This will save me money as I don’t need to buy books for the
actors to use. I will need 10 books, for each actors. The next prop is stationery like pens, panics,
rulers, rubbers and paper. The actors and actresses will use the stationery in
advert as equipment to use while jotting done notes. I will get the stationery from
any store or websites that sell it for 99p. Stores like corner shops and
websites like 99p Store or Staples. From 99p Store it will not cost as much
from Staples because Staples sells the big brands, which I have no need for. The
stationery will cost around £10 from 99p Store, as the store sells it for a
very low price and the quantity is good. Next is the costumes, I plan to dress
the actors with smart trouser and with casual t-shirt. I will get this from multiply
shops like: Amazon, M&S, Asda and Primark. I will get the smart trousers
from Amazon as they products are low price and affordable. The prices are from
£7-£16, which is reasonable unlike M&S, which is £29 per a pear. I will get
the T-shirts from Asda, as they sell simple white shirts for reasonable prices.
The prices are £3-£10, which is very affordable. Overall for the actors it will
cost £50 for the 5 male charters. For the actresses they will be wearing dresses
from the Asda store. The prices are normally £10. So overall for the actresses it
will cost £50. In total it will cost me £100 for the clothes, which is not bad considering
that they are on sale. In the overall total for the costumes and props, it will
come me £110 for everything. I will store the costumes and props at my house as
they cannot be left at school because someone may steel them.
Time
scale and Budget
The
last requirement is time scale and budget. This requirement is important, as I have
to take it into consideration when making my production. As the average time scale
for an adverts is 4-5 months. This is because they have to, have plan a lot, which
means that they have to do a lot of research. This will take time, as gathering
research is not easy because lots of planning and detail methods have to be
used to get the right information the researcher is looking for. For my advert,
the time scale will be 1 and half months, this is because for half the month I have
done the research and got the right information that I need for creating my advert.
For the second half of the month I have create a plan production for my advert,
so laid out the plan of what I need for my advert and how much it will cost. For
the first week of the next month, I will shot my advert on two days in the same
location Monday and Friday. It will only take two days, as the advert is not
long. But the reason for two days is because I will only film half the advert
on each day. This is because I have only time I have, meaning a booked period,
as the library is busy for the upcoming exams. For the last week I will edit
the footage from the shoot and create the advert. The budget for the production
is a specific amount that the client will give me. The plan that I created will
save some money on the locations, as it is in the school and the actors and actresses,
as they are volunteers acting for experience. The budget the client will give
us is around £3500. Most of the money will go to the equipment for the advert,
which is the deposit, but the money for the deposit will be given back after I have
retained the equipment. It will cost £3091 for the equipment including the deposit.
The deposit money that I am going to be given back is £2651. The costumes and
props will cost £110, as they are not that expensive. Overall I will uses £3201
for the advert. The £229 that is left will be backup money, as there might be
changes to which I may have to buy some new props or equipment. After the
advert is made the, the money that will be left, to give back to the client
will be around £2950 est, only if everything goes to plan, which it will.

AS2 -Task Two - Ideas Generation
In this task I will be presenting
the ideas of the advert.
Advert ideas
Idea one
Form – The advert I am creating
will be a standalone advert, as I am only making one advert, which will not
have a series or will have animation.
Style – The style I am using is
humour. This is because most audience remember advertise that are made to make
them laugh and have an effect on them over the day.
The content – The advertisement
will start off with a black and white background looking at a clock. After they
will be students talking to each other, but there will be an individual by him
or herself. After they will be famous figure, entering the class room or
library. All the students run towards him, but he does not pay any attention to
them. He keeps walking to the individual and gives him or her his headphones,
in that moment they will be a close up of the hand giving the headphone. After
the kid puts on the headphones and starts to smile. At the end a text will appear
saying free cover box.
The target audience – The target audience
will be both sex aged between 15-25
UPS – The UPS is the text at the
end “free gift”
Idea two
Form – The advert will be a standalone advert
because I will not create another advert and the advert will be realistic
because it will contain really products.
Style – The style for this advert is humour.
This is because most audience remember advertise that are made to make them
laugh and have an effect on them over the day.
The content – The advert will start off with
people revising in black and white because it is emphasising the tiredness. After
The audience can hear the music slightly, goes in and out of music so that we
can see the different between the tedious revision and the liveliness of the
person listening to the music. Than the people revising will then suddenly be
able to hear the music – become colourful, potential dancing/flash mob. It then
goes back to the tedious revision and the one person listening to music
The Target audience – Appeals to mainly an age
group of 15 – 20 and up beat music, colours, people dancing, realistic
Shots – Wide shots, close ups, 360 degree
track, long shot, POV
USP – Low price (under £30), high quality
music, attractive, different types of people can enjoy it, buttons on
headphones, appeals to both male and female audience.

AS2 - Task One – Market and Target Audience Research
Task
one
In
this task I will be talking about the two researches that will help me with
creating an advert.
Target
audience research
In this task I will be discussing the results that I
have collated form Survey Monkey.
From these results I can find out
if my target market is the majority male or female. The results show that more
female viewed my questionnaire than male. This results gives me a rough idea
about the type of crowed that I will be targeting my product. But there are also
males who viewed my questionnaire, so I have to take that to considerations
when making the advert. On the other hand there is the “Other” category, which
means both sex. I was not expecting that category to have any views, but
because of this I must take it to considerations and target all three category
but focusing more on female, as they are the most audience that viewed my
questionnaire.
From these results I can find out
the age of my target market and I can also find out the majority of which age
group to target. From the results it shows me that the age group 15-18 are the
more likely audience to target because they are they age group filled out my
survey the most. I would also include
other, but because I cannot get specific data meaning number of aged from it, I
cannot target them. But I can still take it to consideration by keeping them as
a separate target audience. Having these results helps me by making it easier
for me to choose which age group to target and why to target them.
This is a simple question that I
asked, to see if people use electronic hearing equipment or not. On the table
it shows that there is some people that use electronic hearing equipment. This
benefits me because I now know that I have a market that uses electronic hearing
equipment. But because I only have 12 answers, the table only gives me an
estimate of my target market.
I
created this question because I wanted to know which popular brand of
headphones people like. The result shows me that, most people would want
Bose, second is Sony; the third is a tie with SMS and Beats. This benefits my
research as I now know which brands to aspect and observe, to see why people it want.
I asked this question because I
wanted to know which brand is most popular to the audience. From the table it
showed me that the most popular brand is Beats followed by SMS, Bose and Sony.
As Beats is the most popular known, I can now find out why because of the data
have collated from the table.
In this question I asked what the
customers prefer ear or head phones. This question was important because it
allows me to understand what the customers want. The table shows me that more
customers prefer headphones over earphones. This benefits me because it allows
me to know which ear or head phones customer want to see.
This question allows me to get a
better understand of how customers spend their money on headphones. I asked
this question because I wanted to know how much customers would spend, so I can
get the right price of my headphones. From the table the majority of customers
are willing to pay more than £150. Around 2 and 3 people are willing to pay
£10-100. This gives me an estimate of how much I should charge the headphones
that I am selling.
From this question, it allows me
to gain information about the target audience’s choice on the question. The
information tells me that the target audience would rather have their
headphones made out of plastic and rubber. Out of 12, 5 said rubber, 5 said plastic and 2
said metal. This benefits me because I now have a good idea of what material
the target audiences want.
I asked this question because I
wanted to know what is the main use of the headphones is. Most of the answers are
on music. This question dose not really help with my research, as most the
population uses headphones for music
This question was asked to see if the customers wanted any new features to headphones. The response is limited as not many customers have answered this question.
Questioner for Headphones
1. What do
you prefer earphone or headphone, and why?
2. What do
you think, that need to be improved on headphones industry, and why?
3. Do you
own a pair of headphones, if so what would it take for you to change brands?
4. What
type of style would you like to see form a headphones ad and why would you like
the style?
5. What do you look for in headphones? E.g. Colour, Brand
6. How much would you pay for the
headphones why?
7. Do you prefer wired or wireless
headphones? Why?
8. Do you prefer bold colours or plain?
9. What type of advert would persuade you
into buying headphones? E.g.
Humour, Reality, Music.
10.Watch
two adverts and see which one is the best and why do think it is the best? –Describe
how it makes you feel about it.
We have gathered lots more
information on how to approach the market with our product. After the focus
groups, we had to consider some changes of the types of things we are putting
into our advert, the changes are necessary as the advert will not convince the
audience to buy the product. These change are from the results that we
collected for the focus group we held. We asked questions about the advert and
headphone and there was 5 students. The response of the first question gave us
a good indication of what to advertise. From the first question, 4 out of 5 students
said they preferred earphones. This gives us that the earphones are better to
advertise as they are more demanded. Than we asked what they were looking for
in headphones to buy them. The majority of the focus group answered, that they
were looking for good quality sound and base. Also including that most the
students did not like the way the headphones look, meaning bulky. Including
looks we asked if they preferred a specific colour or texture to the
headphones. But the students said that they didn't have a specific colour they
would like to buy. The next question we asked, was about pricing. We asked how
much you are willing to spend on headphones. Most of the students said that
they would spend between £10 and £40 and others said they would spend £50 and
over. This give us a good sign of the pricing, that we should show the audience
a reasonable amount price to not push them back, like other advert. As we got
to question three we wanted to talk about the technology side of the headphones,
like did they prefer wireless or wired headphones? All the students preferred
wireless as it was less hassle and their where no wires to get caught on
objects. Next questions is about colour stands. 4 students said that they would
chose plain and the other would chose bold. This tells us that we should
advertise the verity of colours plain and bold. The next was about the advert
itself. We asked if what type of style would they be persuade in to buy the
headphones, most answered that it should be realistic with good music. In the
end we showed the students two different adverts about headphone. The first
ones was #Solselfie, which is a Beats headphones and the other one is the 50
Cent headphones ad SMS. After showing
them both, all the students said that they preferred the #Solselfie advert. The
reasons for it, is because it had good music and showed the Beats headphones
really well. After finishing our focus groups, we now had a better idea of how
to portray our advert to the audience. We will use the information that we have
collected from the focus group to improve out idea and create an attracting and
original advert.
Market
research
In
this research I am analysing different adverts in the headphones section. I
will be looking about existing advertisement for headphone and explaining the
form and style that are used. Also I have to see which current headphones adverts
are popup with my target market.
Dr Dre Solo Selfie
In my first research of
analysing, I will be looking at the Dr Dre Solo Selfie advert. The advert uses
the style of famous faces. This style by itself attracts the audience by giving
the idea to the audience that, if they buy the product they feel that they will
be as cool as the famous faces used in the video. The first famous face in the
video was Kendall & Kylie Jenner, both celebrity have a total of 26.28M
followers on Instagram, which is a big number. So advertising them in the
advert gives the product bigger audience. The next celebrity used is Nicki
Minaj, Nicki Minaj has around 15.2M Instagram follower which again gives the
product bigger audience and a different type of audience because she is a
female rapper. This gives a different vibe to the target audience, to say that
it is aimed at morally women than men because most celebrity used are women in
the advert. The next celebrity is Norman Reedus, Norma have 1.9M followers on
Instagram. This gives the product a new type of audience, because Norman is in
“The Walking Dead”. He brings the
television audience meaning people that are into the zombies and other shows.
The last celebrity is Big Sean, Big Sean has 2.3M followers on Instagram. Big
Sean is a male rapper, so he brings the male audience of rapping to the
product. The Target audience of the product is hip-hop music lovers, which is
mostly aged around 12-18. The advert
makes it clear about the brand image; it shown throughout the whole advert,
making it clear to the audience that the product is top quality. The brand
image by itself does not need introducing to the audience; just by looking at
the symbol “B” the audience will understand which brand it is. Also the advert
shows the product in rage of different colours for different sex, this gives
the idea that the headphones are for both sex. This type of advert is popular
with my target market because it have famous faces which the target audience
likes.
50 Cent SMS
In
my second research of analysing, I will be looking at the 50 Cent SMS advert.
The advert style of famous faces. This style by itself attracts the audience by
giving the idea to the audience that, if they buy the product they feel that
they will be as cool as the famous faces used in the video. The first famous
face in the video was 50 Cent, as it is his product he will be staring in it to
adverts that celebrities uses the product to. Also this advert if effective because
it establishes that all types of people can enjoy music as well, emphasising
the idea of that anyone and everyone can afford the product unlike beats. In
the advert we see 50 Cent putting on his headphones, than turning his head
around. In the next shot we see variety of from models to business workers dancing
and grooving to the music in the headphones that we can hear. From they face expression
I can tell that they are enjoying the headphones as it must be comfortable on
their ears the sound must be smooth and clear. As it gets to the end of the advert
I saw 50 Cent turning his head to the left and after I saw the variety of
people heads turned as the same positions as 50 Cent, show the SMS logo on the
side of the headphone. This advert was effective because it represented that
anyone can buy the head phones. But the target audiences of this advert does
not match my target audience because in the advert it only showed adults not
teenagers.
