For
me to know that my advertisement of SMS headphones is successful I haled a focus group.
1. Did you enjoy the advert?
^Yes, I liked it because it was
fast paced and made the headphones look very appealing. The advert is unique
and nobody has done that before.
2. Would you buy the product after watching this advert?
^Yes because the headset do look
good, but no because realistically is the sound quality of the headphones may
not be that good.” “However I like the fact that it has different ages and
ethnicity in the advertisement, therefore showing how the product is available
to all, not just one specific type of audience”
.
3. What improvements would you make after watching the advert?
^Add more special features or
effects, add more fading in music rather than an abrupt ending to the music.
Alongside with that, add more than one girl in your advert and add more of a
variety of ages.
4. Would you remember the advert?
^Yes definitely, due to the music
being very catchy; it makes it very easy to get it stuck in my head and
remember the advert by it.
5. What would you rate it out of 10? 10 being the highest, 1 being
the lowest.
^8. This is because although it
is a very good advert, it should contain more of your target audience rather
than focusing particularly on teenage and middle age males, thus making the
girls who are watching seem as if the product is not aimed at them and
resulting in very less girls purchasing the headphones.
Pros
and Cons
As I had held a focus group to
gain feedback about my advert, it had its pros and cons. One advantage may be
that I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the participant’s reasons
behind their answers and why they said that particular answer. Although many of
my questions were close ended, the participants were able to expand on their
ideas and why they believed their answer was suitable for the question,
furthermore allowing me to gain a positive feedback from them. Additionally,
due to using a focus group, I, myself, was able to grasp onto different ideas
while communicating with them face to face and listening to their suggestions
and comments on my piece of work.
However, despite the good that
comes out of the focus groups, there are also some negatives. One of them
include the time and effort it takes to organise a focus group. This is
particularly a big issue as many people may not feel comfortable talking out
loud or being completely honest as they may feel it might offend people. Also,
some people may not understand what the question is asking, leading to a made
up answer or one that just ‘seems right to say.’ This therefore would result
into unrepresentative data or valid data due to the participants not being
completely sure.
Audience
The audience of my focus group
were mainly teenagers and middle aged adults. However I had more males than
females and the ethnic origin varied. This was a good thing as I was able to
gain feedback from all of them and not worry that it may be a biased answer,
due to the other ethnic races supporting the view. Although there were more
males than females, the females had a lot to say and made sure that they
participated in the group equally.
Conclusion
To a greater extent, I believe
that my feedback is very reliable because I was able to receive very useful comments
by using the group and how I could improve my work. This makes it reliable
because I was able to use their opinions and reflect it upon my own production.
However using the feedback from the audience, I would improve my work rapidly.
This would start from adding more females in the production, making the females
who are watching the advert know that they are able to purchase the item.
Additionally, I would add more special effects to make it more appealing and
make the audience be more intrigued in the advert. This would attract more
audience and increase the profit of our product.
