AS2 - Task Three - Requirements for a production:

In this task I will be creating a plan productions about my headphones advert explaining why I need to find out about Technical equipment, Filming location, Actors, Costumes, Props, Time scale and budget. I will be talking about what equipment is needed, where do I want to shoot the advertisement, what sort of actors do I need for my advertisement, what costumes and props will I need and how long will the project take from planning, sourcing materials, filming and editing. After I will find out the information about the things need, meaning where to get them, and how much will it cost me. Also I will be showing the client the production that I will be carrying out in the most cost effective.

Technical Equipment
The first equipment that is needed to take into thought when making the advert would be equipment. The equipment consist of cameras for filming, boom mic for recording the voice of the actors and actresses, lighting lamps for the light to be good for the advert and tripods for the support of the camera. I plan to rent the camera from a website called “Hire a camera” (http://www.hireacamera.com/camcorders/xdcamex.asp). This websites has arrange of cameras to choose from. I have specifically chosen the “Sony PMW-200” because of its clear view screen and its specs are amazing. As I am hiring this for two days it will cost me £204 including VAT, without it, it cost £170. As I am hiring it for two days, the problem with that is I will have to collect it on that and give it back, which is Monday and Friday. There is another way of me hiring the camera, which is to hire it for a week. But the problem with that is, it is too expensive as I wish to save money (£382 including VAT) and I will be wasting money on the days which I am not filming, so the first option is better as I will be saving money. I hiring the boom mic from the same website as the camera. The Mic I have chosen is the “Sony XLR-K1M XLR” because it will be able to fit in to my camera. The price of the boom mic is £46 for two days including VAT. Like the camera I have to collect the boom mic and give it back on the same day. It would be easier if I hired it for a week, which cost £86, but I would be wasting the money because on the days I am not using it. The next equipment that is needed, is the lighting. As for the camera and boom mic, I will be hiring the lighting from the same website. The lighting, which I am hiring is called “Dedo 150W 3 Head Kit”. I am hiring this one because of its specs are excellent. I am hiring it for two days, so the price of it is £116 including the VAT, which is better than hiring it for a week, which is £218. The last equipment is the tripod. As like the other equipment, I will hire a tripod from “Hire a camera” website. The tripod I have selected is called “Dolly & Track”, I am hiring this tripod because the dolly has two sets of locating the holes for the tripod legs, which means the tripod can be used in both high and low positions. It has eight radial ball bearing wheels which set the track width to the correct positions as the dolly moves down the track. The price of the tripod for two days is £74 including VAT which is better than the weekly price, which is £137 including VAT. There many problems that could happen when or using the equipment. First, when I come to collect it equipment if any of them get damage, I would have to pay for it, which will cost a lot! Second, if I do not return the equipment on time, I will b have to pay more money than I am expected to. Thirdly, when I am setting up the equipment I have to be carefully that I do not forget the equipment, because it can be stolen, than I would have to pay for it. Overall I will have to pay £440 including VAT but not including the deposit. With the deposit it will cost £309, but I will get back £2651 when I return the equipment.

Film Locations
The second requirement that is needed and I must to take into consideration is the potential filming locations. Originally I thought about filming in public library in Barking and Dagenham in Romford. But in order to film in that location, I would have to type an email to Cllr Kashif Haroon, who is the deputy lead member of the community library for Barking and Dagenham council (dagenhamlibraryroombookings@lbbd.gov.uk). Asking him, to allow me to film in their Romford library. As he has a big responsibility to the council, the reposes time will take long and at the end of it, I might not get the permission, which means I would have be wasting valuable time. So after I decided that I will film in the school library as it will be easier to ask, as I don’t need to write or type any detailed email asking permission to use the library. I can just go and ask the librarian to close off certain parts of the library that I need to use for a timer period of 1 hour and 30 minutes for two days on Mondays and Fridays and I don’t need to pay for the renting of the library. I will do half the filming on Monday and continue it and finish it on Friday. This gap gives me efficient time to change any errors that I have made to the script or the storyboard. They are many ways of transportation to getting to the Robert Clack School. Normally I walk to the school, which takes me around 40 minutes, sometimes I take the bus which takes around 20 minutes as there are two buses stop need to go to Robert Clack. The bus that I would use for the first stop from my road, which is Whalebone Lane, is 62, 362 & 86. These buses go to Farrance Road, than I get off and walk to Chadwell Heath High Road, which takes around 5 minutes. After I take the 172 or the 673 bus to James Avenue, where I get off and walk the rest, which take me around 5 minute. Overall it takes me around 33 minutes to get to Robert Clack with the bus and I don’t need to pay for the buses as I am under 18 so, I’m free. But they’re also many problems that I face with the location and transportation. For example some of the buses don’t arrive on time like the 172 and 62. This is because of the weather conditions, if it is raining and windy the buses will take longer as it is harder to drive in the rain. If in condition like snow it will take even longer. But because it is getting to summer, the weather will start to get better and the buses should not be late. Another problem is that, if I am late, I would have less time to film, which means that I would have to organise another day to uses the library. This is a problem because the library may be used for other things like revision or it may be booked for something else. This would take a lot of time out of making of the advert and cost me the editing time. Another problem is that the weather can get bad and rune the lighting for the camera. Before I decided to film in the library I was looking at different areas and websites to find a place to uses. I looked at the website calledhttp://filmlondon.org.uk/. This website showed me the best places to film in London but the prices are not reasonable and getting there would cost money as I would have to uses the tube.

Actors and Actresses
The third requirement that is needed for my advert is the actors and actresses of the advert. For my advert I will be looking for mixture of people meaning, different age, gender and race. I am going to be looking for 5 actors and actresses aged “between 15 – 25”. This is because it meets my target audience and from my market research most people who filled it out were aged between my target audiences. Also another reason why I will be having same age rang is because it will engage my target audience as the actors and actresses will be the same age. I not really interested in specific genders but I would like to have an equal amount of genders so the adverts can a peal to both sex. But I need to take my result into consideration, which I received from the market research they I carried out on Survey Monkey. The research showed me that 80% females use headphones. I will use this information by making my advert stand out more to the male market for my advert it even more effective. I will do this by making the men look good, strong, confident, authoritative and adventurous. This is because men live in the “now”. They are concrete thinkers that like to consummate and complete what they set out to do. Men are interested in power and in looking good, even more than being good. When I am looking for actors and actresses for my advertisement I am going to put out posters and flyers around the school to find volunteers and I will contact friends to take part as well. Reason for volunteers is because I would be saving money and second is that the actors and actresses would be getting lots of experiences in front of the camera, which will benefit them because most advertisement agency are looking for people with experience behind them. After I will organise an audition where the volunteers will be given a line from the script, which they will have to lean. After I will have book a place for the audition to take place. I have looked at different places and chosen one. The location is near king George playing filed, I have chosen this place because on the website, which is http://www.playfootball.net/romford/functions/#widget they say that they give “Free Function Room Hire”. So I wouldn't have to pay for the room for the auditions. Later when I got the room, I will assemble audition and judge the candidates by their acting and their passion for the character. Than I would have to choose the right person for the role and if wanted to hire a well-known actor, it would cost me a lot of money to persuade them to accept the role. Also by hiring a recognised actors it will give the advert a better edge of the public viewing the ad.  When having the cast there could be problems like, hiring unidentified actors may not have any effect on the audience, unlike hiring a well know actor like George Sargent. Another problems would be if I a late, the actors and actresses would have to come back others day to film. This is a problem because I would have to pay them again, which will cost a lot for the hired actors and I would have to pay for the use of the equipment. Another problem is that if an actor gets lie I would have to reschedule the plan which will cost me a lot. As I am filming in the library I don’t not need any permission from the public.

Costumes and Props
The fourth requirement I need to create the advert is the costumes and props. To make my advert perfect, I will need to make sure that I have all the props I need to for the actors and actresses and the right costumers for the actors and actresses to wear to make my advert. The main props that I will need for the actors is the headphones, as it is the product I am advertising. As this a headphone advert, I will not have to pay for the headphone, as the suppler will give me one to use. The next prop is the book as I am going to create a teaching scene. As I am filming in the library, I will have access to their supplies, so I can use the books that I need. This will save me money as I don’t need to buy books for the actors to use. I will need 10 books, for each actors.  The next prop is stationery like pens, panics, rulers, rubbers and paper. The actors and actresses will use the stationery in advert as equipment to use while jotting done notes. I will get the stationery from any store or websites that sell it for 99p. Stores like corner shops and websites like 99p Store or Staples. From 99p Store it will not cost as much from Staples because Staples sells the big brands, which I have no need for. The stationery will cost around £10 from 99p Store, as the store sells it for a very low price and the quantity is good. Next is the costumes, I plan to dress the actors with smart trouser and with casual t-shirt. I will get this from multiply shops like: Amazon, M&S, Asda and Primark. I will get the smart trousers from Amazon as they products are low price and affordable. The prices are from £7-£16, which is reasonable unlike M&S, which is £29 per a pear. I will get the T-shirts from Asda, as they sell simple white shirts for reasonable prices. The prices are £3-£10, which is very affordable. Overall for the actors it will cost £50 for the 5 male charters. For the actresses they will be wearing dresses from the Asda store. The prices are normally £10. So overall for the actresses it will cost £50. In total it will cost me £100 for the clothes, which is not bad considering that they are on sale. In the overall total for the costumes and props, it will come me £110 for everything. I will store the costumes and props at my house as they cannot be left at school because someone may steel them.

Time scale and Budget
The last requirement is time scale and budget. This requirement is important, as I have to take it into consideration when making my production. As the average time scale for an adverts is 4-5 months. This is because they have to, have plan a lot, which means that they have to do a lot of research. This will take time, as gathering research is not easy because lots of planning and detail methods have to be used to get the right information the researcher is looking for. For my advert, the time scale will be 1 and half months, this is because for half the month I have done the research and got the right information that I need for creating my advert. For the second half of the month I have create a plan production for my advert, so laid out the plan of what I need for my advert and how much it will cost. For the first week of the next month, I will shot my advert on two days in the same location Monday and Friday. It will only take two days, as the advert is not long. But the reason for two days is because I will only film half the advert on each day. This is because I have only time I have, meaning a booked period, as the library is busy for the upcoming exams. For the last week I will edit the footage from the shoot and create the advert. The budget for the production is a specific amount that the client will give me. The plan that I created will save some money on the locations, as it is in the school and the actors and actresses, as they are volunteers acting for experience. The budget the client will give us is around £3500. Most of the money will go to the equipment for the advert, which is the deposit, but the money for the deposit will be given back after I have retained the equipment. It will cost £3091 for the equipment including the deposit. The deposit money that I am going to be given back is £2651. The costumes and props will cost £110, as they are not that expensive. Overall I will uses £3201 for the advert. The £229 that is left will be backup money, as there might be changes to which I may have to buy some new props or equipment. After the advert is made the, the money that will be left, to give back to the client will be around £2950 est, only if everything goes to plan, which it will.

AS2 -Task Two - Ideas Generation

In this task I will be presenting the ideas of the advert.
Advert ideas
Idea one

Form – The advert I am creating will be a standalone advert, as I am only making one advert, which will not have a series or will have animation.

Style – The style I am using is humour. This is because most audience remember advertise that are made to make them laugh and have an effect on them over the day.

The content – The advertisement will start off with a black and white background looking at a clock. After they will be students talking to each other, but there will be an individual by him or herself. After they will be famous figure, entering the class room or library. All the students run towards him, but he does not pay any attention to them. He keeps walking to the individual and gives him or her his headphones, in that moment they will be a close up of the hand giving the headphone. After the kid puts on the headphones and starts to smile. At the end a text will appear saying free cover box.

The target audience – The target audience will be both sex aged between 15-25

UPS – The UPS is the text at the end “free gift”

Idea two

Form – The advert will be a standalone advert because I will not create another advert and the advert will be realistic because it will contain really products.

Style – The style for this advert is humour. This is because most audience remember advertise that are made to make them laugh and have an effect on them over the day.

The content – The advert will start off with people revising in black and white because it is emphasising the tiredness. After The audience can hear the music slightly, goes in and out of music so that we can see the different between the tedious revision and the liveliness of the person listening to the music. Than the people revising will then suddenly be able to hear the music – become colourful, potential dancing/flash mob. It then goes back to the tedious revision and the one person listening to music

The Target audience – Appeals to mainly an age group of 15 – 20 and up beat music, colours, people dancing, realistic

Shots – Wide shots, close ups, 360 degree track, long shot, POV

USP – Low price (under £30), high quality music, attractive, different types of people can enjoy it, buttons on headphones, appeals to both male and female audience.
