AS3 - Task Seven - Re-draft Final Evaluation

My group and I had chosen to create my advert on headphone, because I believed it was a good idea and it had a good market, which I could focus on. The target audience we are aiming for was people between the ages 16-30, as students are the once that listen to music the most when doing work but also, parents that go pick up their children. The group agreed with this because we recognise that students work better with music from experience. The style we will be using for the advert will be humour as more people will be able to remember and get the audience engage.

After we had to do research on our target audience, we needed to see if target audience would buy the product. We carried out surveys online on Survey Monkeys. The response was good, as most people who answered were female, this showed us that we will be aiming at female. It also showed us that audiences really don’t care about branding, only sound quality of the headphones. Than we carried out a focus groups asking question of how much the audiences would buy the product and what features they would like to see on it. The response back was good. 4 out 5 people said that they would spend around £50 on the headphones.

Creating the pre-production documents, was not that hard. They were very simple and straight forwards. But I had same problems with some of the document, like the storyboard. With this I had to create the scenes in my head, which was easy. The hard part was drawing them out, I could not get it to look the right way I wanted to be. Another part that was a problem was that I had to thinks of how every shot and film techniques is going it fit together and how it will look when it is completed. But as we go along the process I thought of the how it will fit there and then.

The content of the advert will go like this. The advert will start off with people revising in black and white because it is emphasising the tiredness. After the audience can hear the music slightly, goes in and out of music so that we can see the different between the tedious revision and the liveliness of the person listening to the music. Than the people revising will then suddenly be able to hear the music – become colourful, potential dancing/flash mob. It then goes back to the tedious revision and the one person listening to music.

When we started filming we had some problem with timing. Some cast members did not show up. So one day, a cast member did not show up, so we had to film another scene. The next day the previous cast member showed up, but he forget the headphone, so we had to cancel that day. We waited at least a week to start shooting because of the timing of cast members were wrong. When we started shooting, we made up something’s as we went along. We had some problems with the filming, like the lighting was to dark and we had to re film a scene again to make it look like it was the same time and day.

Editing the advert was the hard bit, because they are some many shot, I couldn't really tell which one’s which. The first thing I did was uploaded the scenes, then I had to put them in order. I used my storyboard to help me, but we were missing some of the shots, so I had to create a different way to make the advert fit. After that I added sound to the advert, but had to find something that was not copyrighted, so the advert does not get band. I used the sound from NCS, as they do not have any copyrighted sounds. With the specific effects, I just added fade to the begging, middle and end. Beside that there were not problems with the editing.

After I complete my advert, the next stage was for me to get a focus group ready for a screening of my advert. I had to ask some people around the class if they would like to participate with the screening. I had to create five questions to ask the audiences about my advert and recode the conversation. The response back was good. For example one of the question was “would you buy the product after watching the advert”. The response was good. ^Yes because the headset do look good, but no because realistically is the sound quality of the headphones may not be that good.” I agree with this because I could have made a scene of the headphones close up, showing the sound quality. Another question is “Would you remember the advert” again the response of this question is good and I agree with it. ^Yes definitely, due to the music being very catchy; it makes it very easy to get it stuck in my head and remember the advert by it”. The focus group went well, however, despite the good that comes out of the focus groups, there are also some negatives. One of them includes the time and effort it takes to organise a focus group. This is particularly a big issue as many people may not feel comfortable talking out loud or being completely honest as they may feel it might offend people.

After carrying out my research on my advert, I am happy with the advert, as it has positive feedback and, the audience would recommended it to their friends. The advert was interesting realistic, as it was filmed in school. Over my advert is a success even though I could have made some improvement to it.

AS3 - Task Six - Evaluation of the finished product

My group and I had chosen to create my advert on headphone, because I believed it was a good idea and it had a good market that I would focus on. The advert was intstring realistic, as it was filmed in school. Over my advert is a sueecee even through I could have made some improvement to it.

AS3 - Task 3 - Sources of Information

In this task I will be explain how I found my pre-production documents. I will be explain how useful the or not they were, how did I used them in the production stage and how I would improve the pre-production for the next project.

When I created my advert, first thing I had to do was to make sure that I had carefully executed a plan and created all the pre-production documents required to a make worthy advert that would attract my target audience and buy the product. Creating the plan confirmed that I would not miss out any important parts of the pre-production that would have been very important to making my advert. When creating the plan for the advert, I wrote different notes and ideas on to paper and turned them into a storyboard with the different ideas on how the advert should look like. To help me understand how I was going the layout the advert, I did lots of research on the areas I need help on for my advert ideas and chosen the best way to go into, when it came to making my advert. After I had done I had, speak to my group and decide about what product should be out of the chosen one we inveigle picked. Finally we chose headphones to advertise.

Storyboard
When creating my storyboard for my advert I had to think of the important parts of organising the advert. I had to thinks of how every shot and film techniques is going it fit together and how it will look when it is completed. Creating the storyboard helped me to agree on how I would edit my advert and it allowed me to do research with a number different idea shots to see which ones work best together. When using my storyboard, it provided me with a good look of how my ideas will look when it finished and it allowed me to expect which shots would go together. It also gave me good ideas of which shots to include. During the production stage of my advert, I went back through the storyboard document to see if I was creating the advert right, as it was an instruction on creating my advert. But, I could have improved on my storyboard by adding different shots, like the 360 or extreme closes up. This is because most of my shots involved of long, wide, medium and close up. Also what I could have done before I have finished the advert is that, I could have tested with a range of shots to see which one best for that scene. Furthermore when it came to the creating the advert I could have used the storyboard more than once, because when I finished my advert it did not look like the idea me and my group. So the problem was the filming of the advert was rushed and they it look was not good. We missed some shot and had to improvise with the editing.

Shooting schedule and shot list
Another important part of the pre-production documents is the schedule and shot list. Having these document is important when it came to creating my advert, as it provide me with help to stay tack on schedule and know what need to be done I certain areas. Out of the two me and my group used the shot list more than the shoot schedule because we filmed at different time and some actors weren’t in some, we had to reschedule. Also the shot list was good idea of helping us keep organised by showing us how many shots we could do for a scene or area. Using the shot list, means it easier for me to carry it around in different shooting areas and it is more accurate than a shooting schedule because, with the schedule, my group and I did not uses the schedule as much as the shot list and it was not as accurate and clear like the storyboard.

Location visit and risk assessment
When planning the location that my group and I were going to film, we needed to do the important things. We needed to make sure that there would be enough space for us to film and we needed the permission to film there. In the pre-production document, it shows a map of the school area were we filmed in. It also show how we get there by walking routes and the bus routes to take. The location sheet would have been useful if we were a big advertisement agency. It would be helpful because the actors would need to know where and how to the shooting location. The location sheet includes some health and safety issues that the actors and the production crew needed to go through and must follow to make sure that they do not injure them self’s., for example there was a risk of tripping over weirs. The sheet also includes the problems that may happen when filming. Than we created a risk assessment sheet to make sure that all hazed problem are covered and prepared for. The risk assessment sheet contains the possible dangers that can accrue, such as running and tripping over, ear damage from the headphones being too loud and slipping over wet floors. After I measured the necessary hazard and calculated the probability of the hazard actually happening, to make sure that, when filming it would be safe for the actors and production crews. When completing the risk assessment, the group was able to manage the hazard and make sure that the crew were safe from any risks. But we could have improved risk assessment, if we had been more accoutre about the risk levels meaning going in detail with them.

Cast and crew
The cast and crew contact details for the pre-production document stage was not important, as our group is not a big advertisement agency. We filmed the advert in the school and all the actors, actresses and production crew were members of the school. So keeping contacts was not a big problem as we would see each other in school. But it was still important to keep the contact detail of the crew and cast because someone could be mission the shooting day or if they may be a change of plans with the shooting.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think the pre-production documents, is worth planning when making an advert or any type of production, as it help the process keep organised and running smoothly. The pre-production advert helped me to make sure that everything went according to plan and the advert turned out good. But however, there are some important improvement that the team would make if they had to do it again. Firstly the team would make the storyboard more accurate and show precisely what the team is going to do. Secondary the team would make sure that they organise the document more wisely, as we need to be able to see it and make sure the documents can helps us more. Lastly we would use all the documents rather than a few selected because it will give us a better you at the situation at hand.

AS3 - Task Four - Screening

For me to know that my advertisement of SMS headphones is successful I haled a focus group.

1.  Did you enjoy the advert?
^Yes, I liked it because it was fast paced and made the headphones look very appealing. The advert is unique and nobody has done that before.

2. Would you buy the product after watching this advert?
^Yes because the headset do look good, but no because realistically is the sound quality of the headphones may not be that good.” “However I like the fact that it has different ages and ethnicity in the advertisement, therefore showing how the product is available to all, not just one specific type of audience”
.
3. What improvements would you make after watching the advert?
^Add more special features or effects, add more fading in music rather than an abrupt ending to the music. Alongside with that, add more than one girl in your advert and add more of a variety of ages.

4. Would you remember the advert?
^Yes definitely, due to the music being very catchy; it makes it very easy to get it stuck in my head and remember the advert by it.

5. What would you rate it out of 10? 10 being the highest, 1 being the lowest.
^8. This is because although it is a very good advert, it should contain more of your target audience rather than focusing particularly on teenage and middle age males, thus making the girls who are watching seem as if the product is not aimed at them and resulting in very less girls purchasing the headphones.

Pros and Cons
As I had held a focus group to gain feedback about my advert, it had its pros and cons. One advantage may be that I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the participant’s reasons behind their answers and why they said that particular answer. Although many of my questions were close ended, the participants were able to expand on their ideas and why they believed their answer was suitable for the question, furthermore allowing me to gain a positive feedback from them. Additionally, due to using a focus group, I, myself, was able to grasp onto different ideas while communicating with them face to face and listening to their suggestions and comments on my piece of work.

However, despite the good that comes out of the focus groups, there are also some negatives. One of them include the time and effort it takes to organise a focus group. This is particularly a big issue as many people may not feel comfortable talking out loud or being completely honest as they may feel it might offend people. Also, some people may not understand what the question is asking, leading to a made up answer or one that just ‘seems right to say.’ This therefore would result into unrepresentative data or valid data due to the participants not being completely sure.

Audience
The audience of my focus group were mainly teenagers and middle aged adults. However I had more males than females and the ethnic origin varied. This was a good thing as I was able to gain feedback from all of them and not worry that it may be a biased answer, due to the other ethnic races supporting the view. Although there were more males than females, the females had a lot to say and made sure that they participated in the group equally.

Conclusion

To a greater extent, I believe that my feedback is very reliable because I was able to receive very useful comments by using the group and how I could improve my work. This makes it reliable because I was able to use their opinions and reflect it upon my own production. However using the feedback from the audience, I would improve my work rapidly. This would start from adding more females in the production, making the females who are watching the advert know that they are able to purchase the item. Additionally, I would add more special effects to make it more appealing and make the audience be more intrigued in the advert. This would attract more audience and increase the profit of our product.
